Rear fire wall is finished, has a nice
clean look.
The rear firewall is topped off with a 22
gauge steel panel that will double as a
bed cover mount.
Its mounts are also the hinge mounts for
the the decklid.
Using a steel hinge support with
aluminum spars I put together a skeleton
for the decklid. The hinges are light
aircraft canopy hinges that over-center
open and closed.
I still have to cut everything to shape
and clean up the edges. It will be skinned
like a normal car door.
When using this type of hinge the big
issue is torsional rigidity, because of
the spring resistance built in to the
hinges.
I wanted to build it all from aluminum
but it had way to much flex. Tying the
hinges together with steel made all the
difference. It runs all the way across the
leading edge to keep the outside corners
from trying to lift at speed.
