This panel is a pain in the posterior, worst one in the car. It
is trapped on both the front and back by EIGHT notches and
two are at opposing angles. The panel doesn't rest on the
framerails at the rear, so any change in height back there
changes the width of the center two notches.
Layman's terms:
It's wedged in from all directions and really sucks to build.
This is how I come up with the designs and the themes
for the steprolls.  I start by just drawing lines on some
scrap, I tried several different styles before I came up
with this one.
The panel on the left is the "See what it looks like" trial
run, adding several elements to the mix and pick the
best ones. To the right is the four link cover nearly
completed. There is another design feature not yet
added, so stay tuned!
Look closely and you can see the start of the double
framerails. Unlike most other chassis of this type, our
upper framerails don't supersede our normal chassis
design. Chris, Bobbie and I clanged our heads together
and decided on a different approach. Add the tubing
around our normal stuff. We can now run the wiring and
plumbing as usual, and still use the upper framerails for
the burndown tubes, and put the sneeze tank in the trunk
where it belongs! All that while adding a ton of stiffness
to the chassis. Looks really cool too!
Quick side note,, We had a malfunction involving both trained Monkeys and a
hammer. This is the ACME screw (Wylee's favorite kind!) that tightens the vise
on our Mittler Bros notcher, it won't work without it. This happened right at
5:00 in the afternoon on Thursday. I called Tammy at MB and was told that
shipping had already left. She transferred me to Bob, he got the description of
the item that broke, grabbed one off the shelf and took off to the UPS hub. We
will have it tomorrow.  Anyone who has ever talked to me knows I push Mittler
Brothers stuff, this is why. Unbelievable Quality and Great Customer Service.
